How to safely store, handle, and maintain the clinical efficacy of your medication

Proper storage and temperature management of your injection pens (such as Mounjaro and Wegovy) are critical to maintaining their clinical safety, biological stability, and overall treatment effectiveness. This guide outlines everything you need to know regarding transit protection, refrigeration protocols, and room temperature thresholds.

Why Temperature Control Matters

GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists are sensitive biological peptides. Adhering to strict temperature parameters ensures:

• Active peptide integrity and therapeutic potency are fully preserved.

• Safe, predictable clinical outcomes without chemical degradation.

• Prevention of contamination or protein denaturation caused by freezing or excessive heat.

Cold Chain Delivery & Packaging Thresholds

All prescription pens are dispatched using validated, medical-grade cold-chain packaging designed to maintain safe internal temperatures during transport.

• Packaging Duration: Our specialised insulated packaging maintains cold-chain temperatures (2°C–8°C) for up to 3 days (72 hours) in transit.

• Cold Chain Integrity (UK Orders): If delivered within 3 days, the cold chain remains fully intact. You can place the pen straight into your refrigerator to preserve it until the printed manufacturer expiration date.

• EU Orders (Specific Protocol): For European Union shipments via Médetone EU, the insulated packaging protects the pen for 3 days, followed by an additional 2-day buffer window during transit without compromising cold-chain stability (5 days total transit stability).

Room Temperature Stability (If Cold Chain Breaks or Out of Fridge)

If your parcel arrives after the cold-chain transit window, or if you choose to store your pen at room temperature:

• Mounjaro (Tirzepatide): Stable for up to 30 days at room temperature (below 30°C / 86°F).

• Wegovy (Semaglutide): Stable for up to 42 days (6 weeks) at room temperature (below 30°C / 86°F).

Important: Once a pen has transitioned to room temperature, the room temperature countdown begins. It must not be re-refrigerated to extend its shelf life beyond these limits, and it must be safely discarded after this timeframe even if medication remains.

Refrigerated Home Storage Protocols

Refrigeration is the recommended storage method for all unopened pens:

• Temperature Range: Maintain continuously between 2°C and 8°C (36°F to 46°F).

• Placement: Store in the center of the main fridge shelf. Avoid placing pens inside door compartments (due to frequent temperature shifts) or at the very back near the cooling element.

• Strict Anti-Freeze Warning:

  • ❌ Never freeze your medication.

  • ❌ Do not use any pen that has frozen, even if completely thawed. Freezing permanently breaks down the active peptide structure and renders the medication unsafe and ineffective.

Handling Guidelines & In-Use Stability

• Light & Environmental Protection: Always keep your pen stored inside its original cardboard carton with the pen cap securely attached to protect the solution from direct light.

• Check Before Injecting: Inspect the liquid solution prior to each use; it must appear clear and colorless. Do not use if it is cloudy, discolored, or contains visible particles.

• Handling: Do not shake the pen. Always remove and safely discard the needle in a designated sharps container immediately after each injection.

• Keep Out of Reach: Store securely away from children and pets.
